Discussion Questions: Chapter 4
February 09, 2022

1. What role do values play in making ethical standards?
When you can have good values set in place the standards will follow. If we as employees know that there are good values in a work place, it can make you feel more secure. You are willing to do the right thing and hold others accountable to make the correct ethical decisions.

2. What are the characteristics of an ethical organization?

  • Promoting diversity within the organization: Diversity helps to bring in a mixture of values and strengths. The fair and equitable treatment of all employees will have a good impact.

  • Providing a safe environment for workers: When a person can work in a place that takes care of safety concerns immediately, they will have happier employees. There is nothing worse than bringing up a concern and nothing is done about it. It makes you feel powerless and it will continue to get worse.

  • Offering fair and equitable pay: When a company follows this standard and kind of puts the employee first. The turnover rate should be relatively low when giving the right number of benefits.
on the environment. Respecting the law: There are many federal and state laws that deal with workers civil rights. Just because a person has hired you, it does not allow them to abuse you at same time.

  • Being socially and environmentally responsible: Reduce, reuse, and recycle programs can reduce the amount of waste that is produces. It helps a company lower its impact

3. Name the four steps in the process for making ethical decisions.
  • Evaluate the problem and understand the options.
 • Know the stakeholders- the consequences will affect them.
  • Strive to do the right thing. • Don’t be driven by the desire for immediate gratification.

4. Explain how carelessness and ignorance can result in breaches of confidentiality.
Not taking care of someone’s personal information can have detrimental consequences for all involved. If I were to let my HR know that I was going out for FMLA, they can only relay need to know to your immediate management. I always felt the HR did a good job; it was normally the managements loose lips that would leak personal information.

5. What does respecting your employer’s resources mean?
Take care of the things that are offered to you during work. Do not steal, appropriate, damage, or lose the things that do not belong to you. Don’t be kicking the printer machine because it will not work for you. Don’t go through the supply closet for the kids school pack. This takes you back to values and morals.
